This is a knitting stitch pattern that produces an elastic rib stitch by alternating knit and purl stitches when knitting.
In hand-knitting, the knit 1, purl 1 rib stitch pattern is achieved by knitting and purling.

Row 2: P1, *K1, P1 repeat from * to the end.

K1 Purl 1 rib can be done on the knitting machine by reforming the alternate purl stitch to a knit stitch.
It can also be done on a knitting machine using a ribber and knitting machine together and then setting them to knit the rib pattern.
